RAILWAY GOODS.
9 REGULATIONS FOR DRIVERS. Members of tho Wellington Drivcrg , Union. w.ko were introduced to tho Hon, W. H. Horrics last evening by Messrs. W. A. Veitch, M.P., and A. H. Hindmarsh, M.P., complained that, instructions had; been issued to men in tho Thorndon Goods Shed not to assist carters in loading their VjVchicles. It was stated that early in Jlnrch last instructions wero given that goods, should bo placed on the floor of the goods shed. Carters had to get their carts loaded as best thoy could, Wellington was tho only place in which such instructions had been given. In other places goods wcro delivered at thfl tail-boards of tho carts. Tho decision of tho Department in reference to Welling' ton necessitated tho attendance of an extra man to help in loading. Tho deputation asked that tho rulo obtaining at Wellington 6hould bo relaxed so as fa permit railway officers to assist carters to move heavy goods to tho tails of their carts. The Minister was also asked to roduco tho pormissiblo weight of sacks of potatoes to 2001b., so as to "bring them into line witli other kinds of farm produce. Tho Minister promised to consult his Departmental officers and see what could bo done. If possible he would himself visit the goods sheds and see how tha loading was done. If tho reasons of the deputation wore stronger, than thoso of tho Department, lie would havo the regulations altered as desired.
