CITY TRAMWAYS.

. » STATION TERMINUS AND DUPLICATIONS. Various problems in tramway construction are at present engaging tho attention of the City Tramways Board ot Management, now that tho uncertainly which overshadowed tlio recent recommendations with regard to tho reorganisation of tho sections and fares lias been removed. Tho most pressing of these is tho duplication work on tho Upper Willis Street-Brooklyn section of line which tho board will shortly submit to tho City Council as a matter of somo urgency, On tho Brooklyn lino duplication work it is understood is contemplated between tho two loops on tlio hill grade, and when this lias been carried, out tho duplication of the Upper Willis Street length of track will be recommended. A much bigger problem, involving important negotiations with tho Government" in tho matter of certain land, is the construction work to be done in connection with tlio handling of the traffic at tho new railway station in tho vicinity of Bunny Street. Tlio principle underlying tho scheme which is at present being sketched out is that all cars will run to the new station, and pass straight on without changing poles. For example, a city-bound car from Karori will run to the railway station and pass rightthrough on a southern section. Tho station terminus is to be tho key of tlio whole system,! as it will bo tho distributing centre for tho tide of humanity which at present flows into tho city from tho Manawatu and Wairarapa railway lines, and which will later on converge upon a common terminus. In sketching out the general plan of tho scheme tho Tramway Board has looked years ahead, and proposes to ask the council to construct for all time, and extensive 'lay-outs" will bo required for tho circular terminal lines at tho station, in order to enable the car traffic to bo handled with facility and dispatch.
