NO-LICENSE LEAGUE.

The executive_ of the Wellington City and Suburbs No-Licenso League met 1 on Thursday evening, there being a good attcntlnnce of members. In addition to a o,uantity of/routine business, the following resolutions were.adopted:— "(1) That this league enters an emphatic protest agqinst the recent action of the late Mackenzie Government in filling the vacancy in the City Licensing Committee caused by Mr. G. W. Wilton's retirement, contrary to precedent and democratic principles, bv (a) ignoring the unanimous recommendation of the committee, who asked that Mr. R. A. Wright, tavioe previously elected by popular vote, and a man. of six years' experience on tincommitteo, be appointed; (b) appointing to the vacancy Mr. Robert Fletcher, a man directly opposed in his views on thu licensing question to bothi Mr. Wilton and the committee, and to the voters who elected tho committee for many years past. "(2) That this league tenders the Salvation Army its sincere sympathy in lite loss it has sustained in tho death of Gen.' era.l Booth,, its founder and lender. Kecognising in the Salvation Army on? of the most potent and world-wide influences in tho cause of temperance, we realise that wo, too, have lost a leader in the death of tho General.

The Rev. W. J. Comrie, chairman of tho Alliance Executive, detailed the. steps taken to secure tho defeat of Mr. Bell's measure, which steps were heartily approved by the meeting.
