The funeral of the late Mr. T. G. Macnrthy will take place this morning. Sir Maurice O'Borko is practically tho father of the Auckland University College. Ho drafted tho original Bill providing for its establishment, and was really its founder. Hβ has been chairman of the College Council since its inception, and has also taken a prominent part in connection with other branches «f education, having for a great many years occupied the position of chairman of the Auckland Grammar School Board. His career as a polifcicinn and his services for a number of years as Speaker in tho House of Representatives, it was felt, also deserve high recognition, and as he is proceeding to England ot nn early date, it was decided by the meeting that Sir Maurice O'Korke should be asked to sit to Mr. C. V. Goldie, the well-known artist; further, that ho should allow tho portrait to be hung in the Auckland University hall. Mr. J. B. Moffatt, honorary solicitor to tho Now South Wnlos Rugby League, and Mrs. Moffatt, are accompanying tho League team on its tour of New Zealand. Mr. Mofl'ivtt is n partner oi the Hon. G. S. Hay, an ex-Amokura boy, who has just obtained a second mate's certificate. Hay is the first Araokura boy to become so qualified. He joined tho training ship on March 21, 1907, and was discharged to tho barque Marjory Craig on January 8, 1909. He is not yet 18 years of age, and was only twelve and a half years old when he joined the Amokura. Ho served on her for one year and nine months. His brother, one year older, who served a liko period.on tho training ship, 'simultane-. ously and afterwards served in the eame employ, is now competing for a similar certificate to that obtained by his younger brother. Messrs. Claude Corbett (Sydney "Sun"), Becks ("Evening News"), and A. Ligsin and Hibberd, of Sargooil, Son, and Ewen, Ltd., who havo resigned their positions to go to Melbourne, were each presented .with a suitable souvenir, in the form of a travelling rug, by tho manager, Mr. Wilson, on behalf of tho staff. Mr. Stanley Eankin, tho well-known lnqnologuist and pianist, has been appointed an lion, accompanist to the Wellington Orphans Club. The Hon. A.. L. Herdman, vice-president of the Wellington Orphans Club, will preside at the O/phanosium on next Saturday evening, Which will take the form of a Parliamentary night. The Rev. Father Macarthy arrived from Sydney by the Mannganui yesterday.
