WAIHI DRIVERS' MANIFESTO.
—— : —« . ON FEDERATION TACTICS. (By Telegrwh.-Freas Association.) . . Waihi, August 16. The following statement has been issued by tho committee of the Waihi EngineDrivers' Union:— "In order that the public may fully appreciate tho methods adopted by tho Federation of Labour in conducting its campaign, and, at the samo time, emphasise the need for constant vigilance in safeguarding the interests of members, tho committee draws attention to tho following indisputable facts—Upwards of a week ago the Federation, per medium of an-affiliated union at Hnntly (the Wflikato Coal-miners'), caused notices to bo posted in conspicuous places intimating that two engine-drivers were required at tho mine. The committee of the Waikato Union subsequently waited on the manager of the Huntly mines, with a request that two drivers' in tho company's employ, who were members of tho Waihi Engine-Drivers' Union, bo dismissed from their service and replaced by two men supplied by the Waikato Union. The men who were to replace tho Waihi drivers we'ro selected by the Waihi Miners' Union, thus pointing to preconcerted action by the Federation and the Waihi Miners' Union. Ono of the applicants, after hearing the circumstances, declined his services, and tho other returned to Waihi. It is therefore assumed by tho engine-drivers that the Coal Company would not be dictated to."
