The Master of Elibanfe letter asking the prospective Libera} candidate for Midlothian to sta.nd for another constituency in order to leave the way clear for the miners' candidate, is resented in some Liberal circles. The Edinburgh Liberal Executive has nominated Mr. Alexander Shaw,' barrister, Lord Shaw's eon. Major Hope is the Unionist candidate. The miners' delegates have unanimously recommended Mr. Brown's candidature. AN EXPLANATION. (Rec. August 12, 11.35 p.m.) London, August 12. The Master of Elibank explains that with a view to preventing, a three-corner-ed contest, bo had endeavoured to facilitate an amicable arrangement without desiring to influenco tlo Executive's decision. Now that a decision has been taken he trusts the Liberals will strenuously support Mr. Shaw's candidature.
