PUNT CAPSIZES.
NARROW ESCAPE FROM DROWNING. (By Telegraph.—Prera Association.) Auckland, August 12. A narrow escapo from drowning was experienced off Wynyard Pier this morning by' William Crawl, one of, five Harbour Board workmen who were thrown into the harbour by the oapsize* of ti punt. At about 8.30 a.m. the men were told off to raise one of the anchors of the suction dredge lying a couple of hundred yards off tho pier. The anchor was located about seventy yards out from tho dredge, and while the live men wore hauling away at the chain it became suddenly slack, with the result that tho occupants of the punt lost their balance and were toppled into the water. Four of them managed to 6wim back to the dredge, but Crawl was noticed to bo in distress.' A dinghy put off smartly from one of tlie boatshcas inshore, and Crawl was rescuod in a collapsed condition. He was taken in an ambulance to the District Hospital. On inquiry at tho hospital this afternoon Crawl was stated 'to be progressing favourably.
