••.COMMITTEE MEETS. The monthly meeting of the General Committee- of the ,Jlasterton A. and P. Association was held on Saturday afternoon, there being .present: Messrs. H. Morrison (chairman). C. C. Sammerell, W. Perry, D. M'Gregor, jun., J. P. • Perry, A. G. Pilmer, D. Caselberg, G. H. Shaw;- A. J.' Percy, D. Formau, K. Gray, Bland Hnyner, H. J. Dagg, W. J. Welch, 'J. D. Dagg, W. I). Watson, E. G. Allen, JJ H. James, E. J. Dagg, E. C. Perry, J.- C. M'Killop, and W.' Cooper.Mr.'Ernest Short, of Parongi, wrote thanking tho association for his appointment as an honorary life member. Mr. John Smith made a similar acknowledgment./of his .appointment as. a lifo member, ; and Mr. W. C. Davies, of Greytown, acknowledged the association's appreciation of his past services. A vote of ..thanks, was passed, to Mr. Davies for his offer, of agricultural books for tho library. .... The Otago A. and P. Association asked if the committee would nominate two judges; of draught horses for the horse parade, which is, to be held in'Dunedin' on September 26.—1t was decided, on tho motiOu"'of Mr. K. JvDaggl"to rocomniend Messrs. E. D. lCniglit'and Q. Donald, as judges. A Society. 7 Mr. Edwin Hall, secretary of the New Zealand Agricultural Conference, wrote 'stating that'several societies had approved of 'the proposal to organise a National Agricultural Society, but the proposal had not been unanimously accepted, one or two important, associations " having expressed the opinion that it would bo inadvisable to form such a society at present, on. account of the geographical -configuration of the ,Dominion. Tho Hawke's Bay Society had suggested that further steps should be taken to promote a union of all tho agricultural societies, •this union to bo governed by a council. Mr. W. Perry-remarked that" a good deal had been said lately about forming' a board of agriculture. This question, it was thought,- might corae before a national, institution. Mr. Perry suggested that a conference of representatives of associations in the southern portion ofthe Wellington province bo held, to discuss ..this and kindred questions.' Successful conferences had been held at Christchurch and Auckland. He moved: "That a committee, consisting of Messrs. H. Morrison, J. Strang, D. M'Gregor, and the mover, be set up to consult with representatives of other associations on tho 'question of lidding a conference before the ...biennial conference." ■The resolution was seconded by Mr. D. M'Gregor, and carried. " . Field Experiments. Mr. Q; de S. Bayliss, Field Instructor to the Agricultural Department, suggested that ■experiments should bo tried this season with maize for lamb feed ' and maize for dairy feed. Mr. Bayliss also suggested experiments in relation to the growing of swedes.—The communication was referred to the Agricultural Committee. .'•..'"... Hitch Over a Trophy. Mr. T. W. MTCenzie wrote, stating that his cup had been awarded for the bost quality and heaviest lambs, and most value per head on the London market. These conditions, he stated, had not been adhered, to. The chairman thought that there had been a mistake somewhere. He understood that the prize was for the heaviest tegs in the London market. There was no doubt that Mr. Howard Booth was entitled to th 3 prize. It was decided that the president should confer with Mr. M'Kcnzie on the subject. Ground Matters and Finance, Tho report'.of the Ground Committee was read. The caretaker reported having finished topping the avenue trees, etc. He had also finished the divisions of twelve horse stalls. Although the weather had been bad, he was well ahead with the work laid out. It was decided that topdressing at Solway be deferred till tho autumn. The secretary was instructed to write to the Masterton Borough Council, asking it to roll Fleet and York Streets. It was further resolved that half the railWay paddocks be closed and top-dressed. ■ The report of the meeting of the Financo Committee was also read. The treasurer submitted a financial statement, showing receipts for the month amounting to ,£383 12s. 5d., and expenditure £70 10s. Tho debit balance at date was £716 os. 4d. ■It was drc-'ded to issue circulars to members, advising them that current subscriptions were now due, and that the secretary bo instructed to bso every endeavour to collect outstanding fees, donations, and entry money. There are prosperous times ahead for Dairy Factories if prices remain as favourable as at present. There is still greater prosperity in store for the factories whero "victor" Vnts aro installed. Close on a hundred of these splendid Vats aro now on order, so immediate application is necessary if yon want yonr Vats sarly. Albert J. Parton, Carterton.* At a recent meeting in Opnnake, Mr. Counaglen spoke nt considerable length, advocating the formation of a farmers' bank in Opnnake, with a capital of ,£GO,OOO in .i's shares, which ho considered a necessity, and a practical possibility. After the matter had been discussed from various points of view, tho debate was adjourned. A WINNER OF COMPETITIONS.
