FARMERS UNION.
THE PALMEESTON BRANCH. (By. Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) Palmerston, August 11. The monthly meeting of the Palmerston branch of the Farmers' Union was held yesterday. Mr. J. Wingntc presided. Mr. Wingate, on behalf of tne committee, extended tho sympathy of members to Mr. Hunter, secretary, in his recent bereavement. Tho matter of the herd-testing competition for prizes offered by the president (Mr. J. G. Wilson) was considered, and it was resolved that tho timo for receiving entries tor tho competition be extended to August 31. The sheets for record purposes for (he competition (as drawn up by Mr. Buchanan) were approved. Several members spoke of the importance of educating the young people to go in for practical herd-testing, and the opinion was expressed that no doubt the Agricultural Department would be pleassd to render assistance in promoting competitions. . ' After a general discussion it was resolved to ask the co-operation of the Department, and also that a letter be sent to the Minister for Agriculture urging that assistance be given.
