ACCLIMATISATION.
TENTH ANNUAL CONFERENCE. . On Wednesday next tho tenth annual conference of tho Now Zealand Acclimatisation Societies' Association is to bo held in the Chamber of Commerce, under tho presidency of Mr. L. O. H. Tripp. Delegates will attend from all parts of the Dominion. Tho following are some of tho remits received.— That tho Government be recommended to open the shooting season each year, but for two months ouly, viz., Juno' and July in each year (Marlborough). That tho Government should, during declared close seasons in certain districts, appoint paid rangers to protect nativo and other gamo (Bnllcr). That the Act bo amended to provido for a closed season for both nativo and imported game every four years, and that all alllliated societies pledge themselves to adhere strictly to this resolution (Tauranga), That tho Government be requested to impose a. special license of £\ on all pea rides except those used under such conditions as may 'be deemed expedient (Tauranga). _ That all guns known as magazine guns, firing more than Iwo charges, lie prohibited for use against native and imported game (Tauranga). That a gun license bo imposed on all persons carrying pea rifles or guns. License not to exceed ss„ and to be Issued bv the various postmasters—and asking that boys under tlie age of 10 lie nrohibited from carrying pea rifles (Wostlaud). ~ That a general license for shooting imported and native game he issued at 205., and that 'licenses for shooting native gamo be issued at 10s. per annum (Auckland). That the Government bo asked to permit of all sneieties selling game licenses in tho same manner i\s at present with lisliing licences—full account of all salca to bo submitted with chenues in payment, on tlie elosn of tho season (Auckland).' That as Maoris aro in tlie habit of collecting vast quantities of duck and swan c<rgs—for catins—to • tho detriment of snort, the conference be o.sked to tako this matter into consideration, and, if feasible, to make representations to the Government against such a practice (Auckland). ■■
That the Government be urged to pivo effect to the -.fishes of those societies wliich desfre next shooting season to be made an open one, as provided in tho Animals Protection Act. 1910, Section 3, Subsection 1 (Auckland), That the license to shoot opossums should be extended to include Iho ripht. to trap them—and that the license should not include the right to shoot imported game (Wellington). That losrislation bo introduced with n. view to leaving (ho matter of an open or closed season in any district in the. hn'iulfi of the local society, instead of it being, fixed by law as mt present (ITobsori).' '.' That game licenses should bo applicable all over the colony—the same as fisliine? licenses—and that better facilities should be affordpd for tho issuo of samo (Feildiug and district). That tho Whansarei Acclimatisation Society emphatically protests asainst anv proposal to make shooting licenses uni' versal (Whangaroi). That action be taken against license holders, particularly Natives, who shoot for others—hotels, etc.—being given ammunition for game, and in many cases money (Hawora). That the Act bo amended so as to allow knots to bo shot during tho bkisoit the same as godwits- (Centerbury). , That an open season bo declared»for dottrell such time as arrangements are made with the Australian societies to close their season for. dottrell-shooling (Canterbury). That, all non-residents of New 7/ealanrt should lie charged double rates for licenses (Canterbury). That the Act bo amended so that cylinders can be used on Lake Ellesmere (Cam terbury). ' That the.Government be requested to issue Dominion licenses, as follow:—,£,l for a shooting license, £2 for a fishing license, or .£5 for a license for both shooting and fishing. That all moneys accruing from tho said licenses shall become the property of this association, for tho purpose of forming the foundation of a rangership fund under such conditions n* shall he hereafter provided. That in (he event of tliis remit bping carried by tho association, n fishing license ho available only in the district in which it is issued (Ttturangn). That tho time has arrived when all acclimatisation societies should come into lino and definitely decido as to how and. when licenses for shooting deer be received, and a definite method, of allocation of the various blocks bo decided on (Canterbury). That the colony of seals on the Steeples. Hocks be destroyed fBullor). j That the reason for takino; (rout in tho Rolorua district begin on October 1 and end on April .10 in each year, and that the Fisheries Act, which makes it illegal for anyone to have trout in (heir possession, either smoked or frozen, (Hiring •close season, be strictly curried out. and that the Minister be asked to make May, June, July, August, and September the close season throughout .
