While lying in the Huskisson Dock, Livsrpool, the Cunard liner Carmania caught fire. It was about five o'clock when the brigado got the call, and it was not until nearly nine o'clock that their work was practically over, and they could say they had saved the ship from total destruction. The fire started in tho vicinity of the first saloon quarters, and worked its vay. with great rapidity from room to toom, finally enveloping the dining saloon, imokc-room, and the drawing-room. Great volumes of smoko came from the ihip, with occasional flashes of flame from the skylights. Many cabins were destroyed, but the hull was not injured. So vast was the quantity Of water poured into the vessel by tile firemen that she took a heavy list. It will take many thousands of pounds to restore the ship to her former stato.
