The advisability of opening up tho Wel-lington-East Coast district by me.tns of tho construction of light feeder lines is now being vigorously advocated. _ Tho Pahiatua District Progressive .Association last night decided to convene-a representative conference, to be held at Pahiatua, on September 0, to consider tho project, and to invito the following local bodies to send delegates:—Featherston Town Board, Martinborough Town Board, South Wnirarapa County Council, Featherston County Council, Palmerston North Borough Council and Chamber of Commerce, Akitio County Council, and all the local bodies, Chambers of Commerce, and other public institutions in tho Masterton, Elcetahunn, Pahiatua, Woodvillc, and Dannevirko districts.
Messns. \T. J. Sealer and Co., Grey Street, have placed Mr. Henry V. Batten (late of tire Barlock and Remington Companies), in charge of their typewriting department. Ifr. Batten has had locig experience in typewriter work, and the firm undertake to effect repairs to all mnkes of typewriters or duplicators, and they also stock a full range cf supplies. 'the winter boot sale at Hannah's is running strong. Those wonderful clearing lines of women's liigh-grado boots and ■shoes at Gs. lid., some of which wero originally marked l".s. Cd. to 215., are i causing a lot of cm-prise, also the slipper bargains, bought by Mr. Hannah in london, are proving very attractive a.ud popular, The sole is worth a visit,
