LYALL BAY RESERVE.
REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL. The Reserves Committee of the CityCouncil made the following report to tho council last night:— "Tho committee present herewith a tracing, submitted by the City Engineer, showing the area of land which it is proposed to start levelling on tho Lyall Bay Reserve. The area is 11 acres, and the committee recommend that the ground be brought to the required level by means of scoops, the surface clayed over, and that any available street sweepings or soil be deposited on tho top and grassed, as recommended by the City Engineer. The committee agree with the City Engineer that ...it is unnecessary at the presont time to consider tho preparation of n sward on the area proposed to bo levelled, such as has been done at Kelburne- Park and elsewhere, but rather that tho surface should bo left reasonably level and regular,' in order that football, etc., could bo played and rough pitches prepared for cricket, without tho immense expenditure which obtains on other grounds about the city. Tho work to bo dono this year will require to ,bo made to correspond with the amount of money available, viz,, ;C750."
