CHARGE AGAINST A SECRETARY.

Zealantiiu. at Auckland this morning, froiii Vancouver, via the Islands, a first-class, passenger, William Greenland, was arrested on ;n ch'argo of having stolen ,£,% of- tlio money of the Fiji Eruit Company at Suva, of which he was secretary. Ite was brought beforo the Police Court, and remanded for a week, pending the arrival of papers and an escort from, Fiji to take him back to Suva,-lo meet the charge. Greenland was accompanied on tho boat by his wife, they, having booked, tu Sydney. Hr. W. H.ickett appeared for ihe accused, and npplicd for bail. He stated that.Grceiiland and his wifo were on their way to Sydney for a holiday, and had had every intention of returning thereafter to Suva. Counsel added that tho matters which formed tho subject of the charge would probably be explained meantime bv wireless, enabling (he.ehargo to bo withdrawn. Bail was requested, and was Axed at one surety of ,£2OO, in addition to accused's own bond for that amount.
