A NORTHERN LIGHT.
NORTH CAPE OR THREE KINGS? A decision was arrived at some time ago, by the Mackenzie Cabinet, that tlie' new light to be established in the north should be placed'upon the North Cape. When the new Administration assumed office the whole transaction was practically completed, and somo days ago a message reached tho Minister for Marine (the Hon. 1\ M. B. Fisher) stating that tho High Commissioner had accepted a tender in London tor the North Cape light. This refers only to tho light, and not to tho erection of the lighthouse. Mr. Fisher stated-yesterday that a number of marine experts in Auckland seemed to be quite convinced that an error was being made, and that tho real danger to shipping was the Three Kings Group. Taking these circumstances into consideration, the Government had decided that' the matter should remain in abeyance for a time. The light for which a tender has been accepted at Homo can bo utilised for whatever sito is oventually\ decidcd upon.
