BASIS OF SETTLEMENT. The Consolidated Goldfiolds and Allied Companies at Eeefton, acting under legal advice, hnvo lodged an application for a. rehoirinz, and also uotico of appeal against tho Warden's decision granting conditional protection. Under strong pressure from tho Prime Ministor they are prepared to waivo their strict legal rights :md to at onco submit the matters in 'dispute to arbitration, subject t« tlio following:— ' The employers are prepared to ngroa to tho appointment of an arbitrator as provided by clause 11 of tho industrial agreement and to abido by the decision of that arbitrator and resume oporatious immediately his decision is-givon, if the union will alsd agree- to abide by such decision and to official} , instruct its members to return to work in accordance with the decision. Tho two points to be submitted to the arbitrator , are:— (1) Tho question of the employment of one man only to each popper drill. (2) The right of employers tn have any niimnjf operation performed by contract, including contracts in the stopos,
