1 COLLEGE COUNCIL.
— 1 A meeting of the Victoria College Council was held Inst evening. The following were present: Mr. C. "Wilson 5 (chairman), Sir Robert Stout, and Messrs. "\Y. Ferguson, J. G. W. Aitkeu, A. It. Meek, I'. I'. Fleming, I?. M'Nab, A. T. Maginnity, and C. Watson. The financial statement showed a credit balance of .£124 18s. Id., rind the monthly account amounted to ,£833 Gs. .2(1., of which .£761 16s. 4d. was credited to salaries. A sum of .£1875 was diie from the Government. Mr. M'Callmn donated .£lO (his travelling expenses), this sum to be expended on books for the law library. The Professor of Law (Mr. J. M. E. Garrow) applied for a special grant for tho purchase of Lord Halsbury's Encyclopaedia. The Library Committee regretted that the funds would not allow such expenditure. It was, however, decided to endeavour to obtain a subsidy from the Government and (adding Mr. M'C'allmn's donation), the works might be obtained. As the meeting .was a small one, it was decided to poslpone the rest of the business till next meeting.
