It will be remembered that, about two months ago, some 6tir was created by the caso of Mrs. JS'orah Williams, aged 61, who was turned back to New Zealand from Sydney while on a voyage to join her daughter in South Africa. Mrs. Williams, who had come to New Zealand on a visit to relatives, which lasted four or five years, had been living in Wanganui prior to her departure, and, as she was without means to satisfy the demand that she should guarantee the .£2O requisite for her maintenance in South Africa, several people hero took up tho case. Her daughter in Johannesburg ahd | tho South African immigration - authorities were communicated with, and it was pointed out that Mrs. 'Williams was in reality a South African citizen, having landed there" fiftv-four years ago, and, t hdviug only conio to Now Zealand with the intention of stopping for a short period. Tho result was that tho immigration officer was satisfied, and at once issued a permit for Mi's.
