WEDNESDAY ASSOCIATION, ■ Petone 1 Pakelm I i Karori 3 Hui Mai 2 Competitions under the Wellington Wednesday Hockey Association advanced another stage yesterday afternoon. Both games were played at Karori on a very heavy ground. The play showed a decided improvement on that of the previous week.' The match, Petone—Pukeha was a fast game from start.fo finish, botlx elevens showing good combination and defence. The two goal-keepers,' Isherwood and Smith, both had a-lot. of'.work to do, and they did it well. The 'gains resulted in a draw, each side scoring a goal in the second-half. Karori after-a very hard-fought game managed to defeat Hui Mai by 3 goals to 2, Karori scoring tho winning goal just before tho call of time. PETONE-PAKEHA. From tho "bully-off," Petone 'carried play into Pakeha's quarters, but the full-backs sent the hall' back over the half-way line, and some good passing between tho Pakeha forwards enabled them to reach the Petone circle. Subsequent off-side play, however, lost ihein ground. From the free-hit, Petono got right away, but, through over-running the ball, play was kept in .mid-field for some time, until Lyons (Pakeha), getting the ball,, reached I'etojie's circle only to be beaten by J. M'Ewan, who saved by driving over the side line. From the roliin, Petone got the best of the exchange. and pluy was-removed to half-way. Judd lP6tolae) then drove the ball out to W. M'Ewan, and play was soon in Pakeha's circle, Beswiek having a shot at goal. It passed just over the top of the net. The •.pell ended without any score. For Petone, the M'Ewan brothers, Riddle, lleswick, aiul Isherwood were often in froul, while for Pakeha, Smith, Lyons, Gracie, Jonos, and Hall were the "best men. .Mr. J. C. Cusnck was referee. KARORI-11UI MAI. Karori started well, getting the play over Ilui .Mai's 25 yards line, but the find defence of the Hni Mai backs saved, and play was removed to the halfway line. After a time Stevens (Ilui Mai) Started a passing rush, which reached tho Karcri circle, Cooper (Karon's goalkeeper) making a fine "save." From a forward rush m which M. (Spiers, Cole, and Eyi.ewer took part, Dyer scored for Karori. Soon afterwards Hoy (Ilui Mai) found the net. In the second half, Karori made the game fast and open, only tho fine defence of Starr (in goal) saving the defending filde. From a scramble, E. A. Lewer added another goal for Karori. Then from a long drive by Cameron play was carried into Karon's quarters, and M'Natty, getting into the circle, found tho net'. Play tsome time thereafter was very even, but with only a few minutes to go", Lewer again found the net for Karori. Shortly afterwards time was called, leaving Karori winners by 3 goals to 2. For' Karori, tho prominent ones were Cooper, F. A. Lower, Gavford, and M. spiers, wliilo for Ilui Mai, Sherwood, M'Natty, Cameron, and Hoy cauglit the eye. Mi-, C. I'. M'Keuzio was referee. MATCH AT DUPPA STREET. A game was played at Duppa Street between a team representing Winders and the Hereawa Club. Tho game resulted iyi a win for Hereawa by 0 goals to i. For the winners, Kuch (2), Caterer (2), Cragg (2) were tho scorers. For Winders, Clenicntson (3), Brown (1) notched tlio goals. Mr. Empson was referee.
