The Prime Minister, Mr. Asquith, in replying to quostions in the House of Commons, stated that Mr. Lloyd-George, with his approval, had formed an unofficial committee to investigate tho ques-' tion of land reform. The Government would be responsible for any ultimate proposals. If Mr. Barnes were elected for Crewe the Government would not bo pledged to tho Single Tax. Sir Randolf. Baker (Unionist) asked why the by-elections were being fought on Single Tax unless it was the Government's policy. Mr. Asquith. replied: "That doe 3 not 'rest with me." ' , "IN THE CHAINS OF FEUDALISM." (Rec. July 9, 9.25 p.m.) London, July 9. Mr. Lloyd-George, Chancellor of the Exchequer, in a speech at Woodford, 6aid his views on the land question ,wero shared by his colleagues. It was perhaps picturesquo to say that the land was shackled in tho chains of feudalism, but it was not inaccurate.
