INTERESTING STORY FEOM AUCKLAND. (By Tclesraph.-Press Association.) Auckland, July I. A little over four months ago tho story of the niistibrtunes of the Funnell family was published. It will-be remembered that sickness overtook the unhappy iamily. One by one they were smitten with typhoid fever. The father, mother, and four children were taken to tho Auckland Hospital. Two of the children escaped the dread complaint, and wore looked after by a young widow who was boarding with tho Fuunolls. Then more, trouble ensued, a creditor stepped in, and, in spite of protests from tho widow, seized nearly all the furniture of tlie'distroseod family, thus absolutely breaking up the home. The story of their troubles aroused a wave of sympathy over tho whole of the North Island, with Iho result that nearly £'M besides oilers of furniture, groceries, clothing, and other goods were received. The sequel is full of promise. Tho family have been restored to health. They have been reunited in a happy home, amidst plenra.it sur-i-minduias, after their enforced separation. The father and mother are extremely grateful for all Us.it lins been done for them. The money collected for their benefit has been ably administered by the Liev. W. E. GiUatn and Mr. Garland, who acted ns trust"-.? for the fund collected at the "Herald" office and by Sir. Gillam. This fund amounted to ,£228.
