A GOOD LINE OF LAMBS.
SOUTHDOWN CROSSES FROM WAIRARAPA.
Referring to a lino of Southdown cross lambs sent away from the Carrington Estate, Carterton Tecently, the "Wairar rapa Daily News" says the lino comprised 50 lambs which wero killed in Wellington to be frozen and sent to London. Their average freezing weight was Glib., and they were graded prime quality. Sorao of the lambs weighed 801b. and over, cold weight. The fat from there lambs averaged Gib., valued at 21 per lb., avpvage Is. 3d., and the wool was the same average, also 61bs., valued at 10d. per lb. average ss. The pelt averaged a value of is. Id., making the total value for wool, fat and pelt 7s. 4d. Five of the best and primest of these lambs wero given first prize, in a class of 18 entries at the recent Ma?terton Show. They wero nine months old exactly when killed, bein" born the first week in August and killed the first week in May following. They were carefully nicked, and not in any way forced or artificially fed, except for having had a, little rape to keep them going.
