GREAT FOREST FIRES.

NEWFOUNDLAND VILLAGES SWEPT AWAY. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright Ottawa, May 31. Reports from St. John, Newfoundland, state that great fore.it fires are raging in the colony.

The flames swept away many villages and destroyed raUway and telegraph communication. Fifteen, hundred persons are homeless. A thousand square miles of country has been'burnt, and several lumber mills have been destroyed.
