A DEADLOCK.
AUCKLAND HOSPITAL TROUBLE. (By Toloerapli.—Press Association.) Auckland, May 20. The Auckland Hospital oml Charitable Aid Board has not been a happy family during tho last few months, and a crisis was Tcaclied as a result of the scene which occurred at last night's meeting. The board consists of ton members, and in numbers is equally divided. Up till Inst month the section of which Mr. P. 11. jjCKivy was leador, held the balance of power, for Mr. Mackay, as chairmim', Had a casting vote upon all subjects. When the time came last month for the annual election of chairman, however, Mr. H. Schofield was nominated by the opposing faction, and each nominee received five votes. In this case, according to tho law, there was no casting vote, and so the two names wero put in the hot, the result being in Mr. Schciield's favour. The board then had to face the questions of complaints against the hospital administration, on which thoy were In numbers again evenly divided, and, ns Indicated, a deadlock has now occurred. Mr. M. J. Coyle, one of five members who abruptly retired from last nights mooting, this morning informed a press representative that the meeting which Mr. Schofield was calling for Friday morning would Jiot eventuate, for there would bo no quorum, and until the Minister for Hospitals appointed a or some, other independent tribunal to go into the question of hospital administration, thoro , would bo no further-meeting of the board in committee on this question.
