POTATOES STATIONARY. Tho Allen and Blair Street markets have been well snpplied with oranges and bananas this week, the Manilla from Rarotonga landing 3795 cases of oranges and 1080 cases of bananas for Wellington. She also brought 3524 cases of oranges and 1079 cases of bananas for Lyttelton, and 3000 cases of bananas and 2000 cases of oranges for Dunedin. The whole cargo appeared to land ia good order, both the oranges and bananas being exceptionally fine sauiplies. Owing to the general dullness of trade locally at present it was only with the greatest difficulty that 4s. to 4s. Gd. was obtained for the . oranges. So far only half the shipment has been sold. Bananas brought satisfactory prices owing to the fact that only a small shipment is arriving from Fiji by tho Hauroto. Best bananas sold at from 10s. to 15s. per oase. The Hauroto is bringing 491 bunches and 1094 cases. The Sydney steamer this week landed only a small shipment of fruit. Values for lemons were Bs. to IDs., half cases of passion fruit brought 63. to Bs., rough pines Bs. to 10s., and mandarins in gin cases Bs. to 125., according to sample. Victorian and South Australian lemons came to hand yesterday and values for both lines ranged from 12s. to 16s. per case. Local hot-house grapes are realising from 9d. to Is. per lb. Choico local pears are in good demand, but these appear to be very scarco, only inferior lines being sold. Best samples quit from ss. to 10s., and cooking varieties bring from 3s. to ss. Gd., according to condition. A few Capo gooseberries are still coming forward and are worth MA. to sd. per lb. Heavy shipments of apples have been coming to hand during tho week, but the general tone of tho market was poor. Auckland Dougherty's brought 6s. to 7s. 6d. for extra choico lots, American. Horns 4s. to 55., Nelson Jonathons 6s. to Bs., golden inssets ss. to Cs., Lord Wolseley -Is. Cd. to Cs, Five-Crown pippins 4s. to 55., Epps's seedlings 3s. !)d. to 4s. Gd. The market is well supplied with pio melons, which rango from ss. to 7s. per sack. There are still heavy supplies of cabbages available, ond liko last week, these.are almost given away. Cauliflowers ore in better demand, best samples selling at ss. to 6s. fid. per sack/ Bootroot is worth 2s. Gd. to 3s. Gd. per pack. French beans are now coming forward from tho Lower Hntt hnt-houscs and yesterday's values were 51(1. por lb. Parsnips aro bringing 3s. to" ■Iβ. per sack. Carrots are in heavy supply at 2s. to 3s. There is ■1 fair sale for white turnips at Is. fid. to 2s. fid. per sack. Swedes meet with good inquiry at 2s. Gd. per cvt.. and lettuce are plentiful at. Is. to 2s. Gd. per case. Choico white celery is in good demand at 3s. to is. per dozen. The market is over sunplied with pumpkins, present values being 3s. .to 4s. per park. Fairly heavy supplies of vegetable marrow are available- nt 2s. to 3s. per sack. Onion supplies are fairly heavy the nrcsent values being Bs. to 9s. per sack. Knmeras are selling at ss. to 7s. per ornngo ease. There is very little movement in the potato market, all local stores being practically full. Owing to the shortage a few weeks back, most buyers havo filled up for at least another ten day? and in the meantime practically no pnlcs aro being made. If anything, prices show a tendency to fall. Fresh eggs are worth 2s. to 2s. 2d. per dozen and preserved eggs Is. 2tl. lo Is. 3d. There is a fair demands for poultry, ducks, fowl?, mid young rooster* being inquired for.
