MINERS' MINIMUM WAGE.
DISCONTENT WITH THE AWARDS. By Telesraph—Press Association-Copyrieht. London, May 22. Sir Edward Clarice, chairman of the coal miners' Conciliation Board for South Yorkshire, has awarded the highest minimum wage rates yet granted under the Act. Tho rates are Getters, lis. 9d.; trimmers and fillers, ss. 9(1.; by-workmen superintendents, Gs.; all others over 21, 55.; boys, 2s. to 4s, lOd. Tho award follows the principle of a fair day's work at a fair day's wage. Men failing to work eighty per cent, of shifts during <i week or not working to the best advantage, or not executing reasonable orders, shall forfeit tho right to the minimum. Tho Minors' Conference lias strenuously protested against several of the awards fixing the minimum below a reasonable living wage, and has instructed its executive to seek an interview with the Government.
