It is stated in connection with the dockers' strike that the lightermen partially unloaded (lie Australian cargoes of the steamers Maloga and Demosthenes and then raised objections, their eomplnhu;including one that three ntni-iiiiioni:-Is had been, employed. Despite the orders of Iho dock authorities, they refused to continue. Mr. Gosling, president of the National Transport Workers' 1 •ederation, nnnonnced that the federation was taking the dispute nut nf the hands of Hie lightermen. He did not think the Government could deal with the dispute, which involved a life and death struggle over the question whether unionists were to work with nonunionists. The federation officials expect that 80,000 men will be striking at the end of the week.
