MONEY AND SPORT.
CHARGE BY A LEAGUE CHIEF. A charge regarding the administration of amateur Rugby was made last evening by Mr. G. Giliett (Northern Lenguo organiser) in the course of a spccch delivered at, the- n-.ccling called for tho purpose of forming a Wellington Provincial Rugby League. Mr, Giliett is known to most followers ot' football as a member of the celebrated-All-Black team, and a prominent Auckland player. . "Most prominent players, he said last evening, in speaking of the amateur game, "have received money, and will ro oa receiving money underneath tho table. I sav if they are, going to pay, why not do it "on top of the table, where everyone can soo it, and let all be treated alike. I have had my share. (Laughter.) I had one season of it. ii*n X set my foot <lown, and said that I was going, to have a certain amount or stop playing, an amount was sent along, perhaps not so much as I expected. I have nothing against the Rugby game,' continued Mr, Giliett, "or against the men who play it, but I have something against.-the people who legislate for it. When prominent men in" (he union say that they arc not going to cater either for tho public or tho player, it is time that somebody should come along who will consider them. The leaguo will consider the player and consider the public, and X don't think it ever intends to carry forward a balance-sheet of .C 15.000. (Applause.)
