SUCCESSFUL NEW ZEALAND INVENTOR.
Another name has been added to the list of successful New Zealand inventors. Mr. Donald M. Elder a few months ago took out patents through Messrs. Baldwin and If-avward for an ingenious contrivance for fastening to fencing wires by means of thin, binding wire. The invention was in form.sometiling like tho well-known drill brace, but tho turning of She handle had the effect, of coiling thin binding wire round tho articles to be connectcd, and then automnfically cutting the wire. Tho invention will proyo of great value to farmers, especially in putting up rabbit fcncing, and thai its merits are freely recognised is shown by tho fact that an' English syndicate has purchased the British patent for a considerable sum in cash and royalty, and upon the first dav of the company's operations no less than..£ll,(loo worth of machines were sold, and in a week later another <£50,000 worth were ordered. . Sir William Hall-Jones, High Commissioner for- tho Dominion, has congratulated tho inventor, and has asked that a machine may bo lest at his (Sir W. HallJonss's) offices, as an example of a New Zealander's ingenuity. ... Mr Elder'intends, before returning to New Zealand, making.an extensive tour, of Europe, and upon his vctum will complete another invention which he Uas in hand, and which he thinks will revolutionise the watering of streets.
