MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

(Before Mr. W. G. Eiddell, S.M.) CARTER AXD THE BOOTS. At the Magistrate's Court on Saturday William Stephen Jenkins was accused of having stolen sis pairs of footwear, valued at 155., belonging to Daniel Coronno. Defendant, who was represented by Mr. J. J. M'Grath, pleaded guilty, but put forward an explanation. He said that he had been engaged to cart some boots for Coronno, and his account had come to 19s. Fearing that he might not be paid by Coronno, defendant had retained six pairs of footwear. 'He vas willing to pay the M 15s. Bd. His Worship convicted defendant, and ordered him to appear for sentence when called on. OTHER CASES. Catherine Andrews, who had been convicted of 'breaking a prohibition order, was sentenced to twelve months' detention at Pakatoa. Kate If yen appeared on a charge of insobriety, and was remanded till May -5 for medical treatment. James L'yan appeared for sentence on charges of "having used certain language and having refused to "leave the Royal Oak Hotel when asked to do so. He was fined .£3 on the first charge, and <£1 on the second.
