COMPENSATION CLAIMED. FOR LAND TAKEN, KTC. further evidence in support of claimant's was taken before the Compensation Court on Saturday morning, in the action in which .£IO,BOO was claimed ns compensation for loss sustained through the taking of land. The Innd includes three sections situate in Watt's Peninsula (Miramari, Jllock Vl], Port Nicholson Survey District. ruder proclamation, dated June 25, 1909, the land- were vested iu the Wellington Harbour Hoard for the purpose of enabling spoil to bp tnken therefrom in order to carry out reclamation in Evans Bay. The claim (particulars of which were published on Saturday) is being heard before Mr. Justice Chapman, and sitting with hitn as assessors aro Mr. W. O. Foster and Mr. W. M. Hannay.
Mr. C. P. Skc-rrett, K.C., with Mr. M. Myers, is appearing for the claimant (H. N. M'Lend), and Mr. T. S. Weston, with .Mr. T. Neave, is appearing for the Wellington Harbour Board. When opening on Friday, Mr. Skerrett said that as there was some mention of the Harbour Board abandoning the reclamation work, Mr. M'Leort would be quite satisfied if he could get his sections back with some suitable compensation for spoil already taken. Mr. Weston stated that this was not practicable, so the hearing continued. Two of claimant's witnesses were examined on Friday, and several more on Saturday morning, but claimant's case had not closed at 1 p.m., when the Court adjourned until 10.30 a.m. to-day.
