THE PLAY ON SATURDAY,

SENIOR RESULTS: Karori 4 United 1 Wellington 3 Metropolitan 2 For the first time this season the weather was bad, and consequently all town games were postponed. The grounds over the harbour, however, were in fairly good condition, considering" the rainfall. No. 1 ground was rather greasy, while ground No. 3 was.decidedly slippery, first-class hockey was out of the question, although at times the games waxed warm and willing. Only two senior games were played, the College-Government Life insurance match being postponed. AH the junior matches were cried oft', but the third-grade fixtures were got off at Day's Bay. KARORI—UNITED. United jumped off the mark from the "bully," only to be sent back by L. Davies (left-back). Loader then got the ball, but found the ground too greasy for progress, and then G. Davies shot down to the goal, where Dwyer kicked out. Karori camo on again, and M'Eldowncy conceded a corner, which was not turned to account. Then Henderson and Campbell wero conspicuous, but again M'Eldowncy came to the rescue. Then G. Davies received a pass from 1!. Partem and made no mistake. Karori, I—o. United now took up the attack, and Karori had to concede several corners. The Iteds, however, were not quick enough in the circle, and so the chaiices were lost. Collins (righting) here took the ball up, but was "beaten for possession after getting to the backs. The Blacks livened up, and Henderson, securing the leather, transferred to G. Davies; Dwyer, in goal, missed, and Davies tapped in a soft one. Karori were two goals at half-time. Despite the state of the ground, the players battled .along strenuously. Tumbles were frequent, but the players were in good sporting mood. United's turn soon came, and, from a good rush, Andrews sent in. a shot. United. I—2. Immediately after, Andrews bolted down tho field again, only, to find that he was unsupported, and so a good chance was lost. Then Loader carried the ball tipfield, only to be robbed of it, however. Karori got into the circle, where M'Killop had a shot. Then G. Davies endeavoured to goal, but the ball hit the post. At last, however. Henderson managed to find the net, making the tally_ 3 —l. Up and-tlown plav ensued, and, just before time sounded Loader whipped in Karori's fourth and Inst goal. Mr. Coekrell was referee.

WELLINGTON-METROPOLITAN. Played 011 No. 1 ground, this game was keenly fought from start to finish. The condition of the jilaycrs was good—that of Metropolitan being particularly lively. The absenes of Bakor was keenly felt in the back rajik, but the play of M'Gregor (centre-half) was excellent. Both in' attack and defence this player was always noticeable, his tricky stick work a treat to watch.' ' From the start the play was warm, 'but very even till Metropolitan, working their way down to tho circle, enabled Muldcoii to send in a. good goal. Away they went again, but Morrah and Schlaadt, the Blues'full-backs, sent'them back again. Wellington now warmed to their work, and, after some scrambles, Hollis sent in'a hot shot, making the scores one all. Then M'Gregor carried the ball down tho field, and bansed hard at the goal. ' The ball struck the post, and cannoned into the goal, giving Metropolitan a lead, which they held till halftime.

The pace did not slacken on resumption. Morpeth doffed his pads, and Armstrong (right-inside forward) put them on, Mor--1 peth going into the forwards. The Blues got the ball, and Reed, with full steam np, sailed grandly down the field, but the ball was lost in the rircle. Time then sounded. . Mr M. Luckie was referee. OTHER MATCHES. THIRD .GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP. Playing at Day's Bay. Gregg's beat Wellington by 3 goals to 2. The game was evenly contested right through, but, just, on time, a Wellington back slipped, and a Gregg's man, being handy, sent in an easy shot which gave I hem the match. St. Mark's defeated Victoria College by 8 goals to 5, after a rather one-sided contest, Mr. Manning was leferee. Kilbirnie Anglican had a bye. Ladies' Games. College Old Girls, playing four short, put up quite a creditable showing against their superior opponents (Ramblers). Ramblers attacked from the commencement, and within thirty seconds they hod secured a goal, per medium of Miss Harris, I—o. A few minutes later another goal was added, Miss Bolton sending in a hot shot. 2—o. For a considerable time play was scrappy, until Miss Harris was successful in securing her second goal. 3—o. College then attacked, but their opponents proved too strong, and the ball was sent back to College territory. From a scramble near the goal-mouth, Miss Bolton sent the ball into the net. Shortly afterwards Miss Harris scored heT third and last goal, making Ramblers', total 5, against College nil. There was 110 further score. Mr. C. P. M'lvenzio was referee.

Rata (!)) v. College Old Girls A (OV— At half-time Rata had 5 goals to their credit, while Old Girls had none. 011 thn commencement of the second spell, Old Girls made a fine effort to score, but their chance was missed through oft-side play. After this Rata took' matters into their own hands, and had 110 difficulty in registering more goals. The successful scorers were Misses A. O'Leary (5), N. Lang (2), it. Nolan, and G. Wright. Miss Humphries played a brilliant game for Rata. Mr. Searell was tho referee.

St. Augustine's (1) v. College Old Girls B (o).—College Old Girls played with two short. Missß. Southgato scored the only goal. Mr. Keys was the referee. Petone (2) v. Herewliini (0) resulted in a fairly good game. Petone held the upper hand throughout, although both sides indulged in a good deal of wild hitting. Miss Scrimshaw scored both goals. Mr. C. Nicholas was referee. Syrens (7) v. Petone D.H. School (o).— Syrens managed to secure one goal in the first half. In the second spell, however, they ran away : with the game, notching altogether seven goals. Tho scorers were: Misses Dement (3), Benge t2), Macdonell, and Warren (1). Mr. B. Stevenson was the referee.

The Wellington Hockey Association's fender for playing-grounds at the Ilutt Park is .£7O for the first threo years and .£OO per annum for the remainder of the ten years' arrangement. Tho offer was accepted. __________
