A STRANGE HOUSEBREAKER.

OLD LADY'S TRYING EXPERIENCE

(By Tti«rai>h,—BnesUl Correspondent.) Auckland, May 17. An old lady, residing in Syinond* Street, Auckland, had a rather .exciting experience yesterday afternoon. She was iil in bed, and was the only occupant of tho house at the time. A noito «t tho front door, which was loclicd, made her aware of tho fact that someone whs trying to get in. It ccased, and similar noises made themselves heard at ilio back. Then a man appeared at the window, and, oponine it, attempted to get in the room. Tho_ old lady pushed him out, and closed the window alter him. The man mode practically no resistance and retired quietly, but siiCTtly lifter returned and put his fist through a panfl of glass, ogam retiring without doing any further damfrgo. Half an hour later the old lady was surprised to receive a third visitation. This time the intruder cam© firmed with a cJwth, tth/1 which he proceeded to obliterate all his finger-prints that showed in tho dust on tho window sill and ©n. the glass.
