REPORTERS' RISKS.
"A VERY DANGEROUS THING FOR NEWSPAPERS." Regarding the reporting of interlocutory proceedings, Mr. Justice Cooper made a rather important statement in tho Supremo Court yesterday afternoon, after ho had read tho judgment of tho Court in tho case of Stagpoole v. Pirani, an application for change of venue. "I might say now that the reporters are present," remarked his Honour, "that it is a very dangerous thing for newspapers to publish affidavits in interlocutory proceedings iu matters which are Chamber matters". Mr. M. Myers, who was present in Court, said that not long ago the practice wbs that Chamber matters were never reported, but morn recently the practico of tho Court permitted these matters to be reported. His Honour pointed oat that in tho case which he had under note someone had apparently "searched" tho file and mado the affidavits public beforo the matters really camo beforo tlio Court. It was very dangerous for tho press to publish these. What he meant was that tliey did it »t their own risk, and might bo liable to proseoution for libel or contempt of Court. He mentioned a case that had occurred some years ago, where a paper had been successfully proceeded against.
