IHoii), qn proposing that the annual report and balance-sheet be received, explained that it had been .impossible to print and circulate the latter, as it had not yet been certified to by the Government Auditor. After an acrimonious discussion, tho motion to receive the rep-ort was carried, but il was decided that the balance-licct he printed and circulated, and another meeting held on Wednesday jie.-sl to dis'ciir.s it.

At the Magistrate's Court this morning, the charge preteneil against .1. Owing to the abundance of feed, and the inability of settlers to procuro store sheep, it as expected that many of tho stations in this district will bo understocked this winter,' A stock fair in connection with tha Masterton A. and P. Association is to be held on the Solway Grounds on Wednesday next. A large number of stock has been donated by inemljcrs of tha Association. A "casual" camp for territorials will bo held on the old showgrounds next week. It is expected that two or three hundred men will be under canvas. The Hutt and Petone contingent (fifty strong) arrived last night. Major H. 1\ Okey will be in charge of the camp. At a meeting of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce to-day, <i resolution was passed to the elfect that steps be taken to place before the Minister for Kailways the importance of Masterton to the Waiipukurau railway connection, and that a committee be set up to prepare facts-in favour of th-e routes. The i chamber decided to call a public meeting to discuss the question of holding industries week in Masterton. A resolution was passed endorsing tho action of the Wellington Chamber in regard to improving the means of communication between town and country, and offering to co-operate with local bodies in the matter. The chamber placed on record the valuable services rendered by the late Mr. H, S. Wardc-11 as Resident Magistrate over a period of twenty-five years. A resolution was passed oordially approving of the. defence policy at present in operation and of the able manner an which it is being administered.
