MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Miramar Borougli Council was held in the Council Chambers lust evening, the Mayor, Mr. H. N. M'Leod, presiding. The Mayor moved that the council express its "appreciation of the attitude taken by the Minister for Defence in connection "with observing the law relating, to the compulsory provisions of the Defence Act. The matter arose out of a resolution on the subject, passed by the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce. Councillor Bowie seconded rue motion, and the general, feeling of the meeting was that a local body should support' the Government in sustaining the law. The engineer reported that thfc'estimated cost of erecting n fire station and bell tower which could be used for hose' drying at Seatoun would be Jl-2 for a shed, 20 x 12ft., and .£3l 10s. for a shed 15 x 12ft. The matter was referred to the Works Committee. Mr. Gellatly was appointed to net as the borough's' assessor before the Assessment Court in the matter of the objections to valuations., • „ A letter was received from Mr. h. H. Underwood complaining of the condition of tho Marine Parado at Seatoiiu in the •vicinity of his residence. The Mayor remarked that the matter was en important- one, wliich had been before previous councils, but the work would be costly.
