DEFECTS IN THE NEW BUILDING. (By TeUKMph.-Spcclal Correspondent.) Auckland-. May 12. Although the external tho new Post Office indicates the 'approaching completion of the work it is understood that at least three montlw will elapse before the business of to Department can he removed from « old offices in Shortland Street. It will ncccssarilv he a biff undertaking to transfer the portal equipment without stopping the service in any way, and this wonc will need to be carried out by degrees. Ilia appointments of tho new offices are excellent in the main, hut adverse opinions have been expressed concerning tho facilities of the private letter boxes. Ih« spaces on tho back of these are said to he too small to allow the stall fully to index the addresses which apply to each bov It mav be that tho Department intends to give effect,to a suggestion that was made some time ago only to placo inside each box letters which are hilly addressed with tho number. At present (his rule is not insisted upon. The pro. vision of a writing room for the use of private boi holders will ho' appreciated.
