BANK AMALGAMATION.
A BIG CANADIAN SCHEME. By Telegraph—Prees Association—Copyrlsht Ottawa, May 9. A Commission has reported on the pending merger of tho Bank of Montreal and the Union Bank. Afterwards tho Bank" of Mcntreal is likely to amalgamate . with the Royal Bank of Canada. If consummated, the merger will probably bo the largest in tho history of banking. Sir Thomas Shaughnessy, head of tho Canadian-Pacific Railway Company, is spoken of as likely to be chairman of the amalgamated banks.
