A Wellington Wedding. A very quiet wedding was celebrated at the Primitive Methodist Church, Sydney Street, on April 21, when Miss Bessie A. Hall was married to Mr. Charles Edward Brodie. of Akilio. The .Rev. 1 ! . J. Cossilm officiated. The bride, who was given away by Iter brother-in-law, Mr. Arthur Wiilin.'was dressed in a wedgwood blue cloth uress, and black seal hat, withwhits plumes. She carried ;i shower boufiuet of roses, hyacinth, and maidenhair fern, and was attended by her niece, little Olive Wiflin, who was prettily dressed in heliotrope silk, with hat to match. The bridegroom was attended by his brother-in-law, Mr.'A. G. Saunders) as best man. As the bride and bridegroom left the church, the Wedding March was played by Miss .T. Nicholas. They immediately left, by the Main Trunk express, amid showers of rice and confetti. Citizens' Vice-Regal Ball. Considerable interest is being taken in tho citizens' ball, to be tendered to his Excellency the Governor and Lady Islington at the Town Hall, Auckland, on May 22. The function promises to be tho largest of its kind ever held in Auckland. Already over 20ft tickets have been applied for and disposed of. The various subcommittees are now actively engaged in making preparation for tho event. It is anticipated that two, or perhaps three, warships of tho Australian Squadron will bo in port on the day of the ball, and tho presenco thereat of the naval officers will lend further attraction to the function. Hastings Wedding. Tho marriage took place recently, in tho Catholic Church, Hastings, cf Miss Fanny Mary Stokes, daughter of tho late Mr. William Stokes, of Tikokino, and Mr. Thomas J. Maloney, only son of Mr. Michael Maloney, of Loch lnver station. Tho Rev. lather G. Mahony conducted tho service, tho wedding being of a very quiet nature owing to a recent bereavement in tho bridegroom's family. Tho bride was given away by her brother-in-law, Mr. W. Green, of Tikokino, and was attended by (ho Misses Carswell and Macky. Mr. Tom l'nrrel, of Napier, was tho best man, and Mr. 0. S. Stokes (brother of tho brido) was groomsman. After tho ceremony a reception was held at the residence of Mrs. Macky, Loch lnver Ifouse, where tho usual toasts were honoured and speeches made, Obituary. Miss Millicent Heywood, principal of the music teachers of the Diocesan Girls'* High School, Auckland, died on Sunday after a short illness. Miss Heywood vras a daughter of tho late vicar of St. Mark's Church, Auckland. She was a musician of rare skill, and by her ability and her personal charm had won a high placo in tbo esteem of the authorities and the pupils of the institution. On account of Miss Heywood's death, the school term has been closed. Dr Barcroft and Mrs. Barcroft (Hastare visiting Wellington, and are staying at tho Grand Hotel. Mr. Dave Caselberg and Mrs. Caselberg (Masterton) aro visiting Wellington, and arc staying at tho Empire Hotel. Jlrs. A. B. Lawrence returned to Masterton on Thursday from a short visit to Auckland. Mr. Morris, late manager of the Bank of New South Wales in Gere, with Mrs. Morris and family, has arrived in I'almorstou, to which place he has been transferred. Mr. John R. Russell and Mrs. Russell of Dannevirke, and Miss Russell, are leaving on a visit to England on May 17, sailing from Wellington by the Maunga'nui to .Sydney, and from' there to London by the Ouu-ali. Mrs. F. C. Lewis (Masterton) has returned to her home from a visit to ltotorua. Mrs. Munro, who has been spending several weeks in tho south, has returned to Wellington. Miss N. Drummond left Wellington ou Monday on a three weeks' visit to Auckland and Rotorua.
Jliss Coivles, from America, is visiting New Zealand, and is at present staying ut tho Grand Hotel, in Wellington.
The death took phca at Hastings on Sunday of Mrs. Donald Banks, wife of Mr. Donald Banks, of Hastings, after an .illness extending over three months. The deceased lady was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Coffey, of Oneliunga, and for some years prior to her marriage taught at fit. Benedict's Private School in Auckland. The lato Mrs. Banks was held in the highest esteem by a very wide circle of friends, and her kindly disposition mado her popular with everyone. Mr. and Mrs. W. Death of Mrs. Andrew Richmond, Many people will regret to boar of tho death of Mrs. Andrew Richmond, of Nelson, which look place on Saturday evening after a long illness. She arrived in Nolson_ with her parents, Captain and Mrs. Biundell, in 1851, on Christinas D.rv, and the house they first lived in is still standing. In 185G she married the late Mr. A. J. Richmond, son of tliß late Major Richmond. She leaves three daughlors—Mrs. Sclandcrs, Miss Richmond, Mrs. Kissling, and one son, Mr. F- H. Richmond. ! An Acknowledgment.
