DEMOCRATIC RULE.

Sir,—The. leading article under the above heading in your issue of May G is one I am sure that is calculated, if read without party bias, to stimulate healthy Eliblic spirit, as well as enhance our tiowledge of the vital principle of representative and responsible Government, nnmely, that the J/inistry chosen should ba one in strict conformity to the general wishes and inclinations manifested by Parliament, ami anything short of full compliance to this mandate cn the part of any Government can be rightly designated as a serious onslaught 011 democratic rule, which it is to be ftoped will be firmly resisted by all, whether Liberal, Reform, Labour, or otherwise. I would suggest, sir, that public- meetings of protest should be convened throughout the Dominion calling upon the Government to immediately summon Parliament together to i'et the necessary sanction to administer the afi'airs of the country, and I sincerely trust that our debating societies will sot down on their syllabuses this,- article on "Democratic liulc" for debate, as it' would be a very unique and profitable discussion at the present time, for newspaper leading articles are frequently discussed by many societies of that kind in different parts," and tend to open un ground for wholesome reflection, as well as giving strong premises to affirm or deny.—l am, etc., W. E. J. IIAGUIEE. Wellington, May G.
