EDUCATION ON THE WEST COAST.
Sir, —Will you allow 1110-space in yoju' taper to uir a grievance? I'ou iiiive n Training College ill .your city. What is its use? Is it another "white elephant" to create expenditure ami" aihl fresh burdens to the taxpayers of the l)ominion? Two years ago three girls left here for the Training College. They hnd served as probationers anil compiled with the regulations. After going through their course and receiving ii trained teacher's certificate, also passing I), Part C, and Full C in one case, they KTiirned home and applied for positions as assistants under the Urev Board. ,To their dismay they had no ehnnce. .Probationers and pupil teacher (Junior Civil 'Service) stood higher and recsived the positions, ilad they even passed D, one might have overlooked it. Now is this legal or fair? If it is, then the sooner a new Government gets in and abolishes Training Colleges the better for the country. If it is not right, then you don't need - any conference. Education Boards should go. Think of the anxiety ot' mothers while their daughters 'are undergoing their training, in ease of illness, etc., and can you wonder that I am AX INDIGNANT MOTHER, Greymouth, Jlny 1.
