A REPORT DENIED. It lias been rumoured that the Government has already appointed a' certain gentleman as assistant law officer in succession to Mr. T. Neave, wlio lately resigned his position in tho Crown Law Department to go into private practice in Wellington. The Minister for Justice (Hon. J. A. Hanan) stated last night that a number o£ applications for the position had been received, but no appointment had yet been made.
