A' pod deal of shop-lifting goes on in Auckland, but the testimony of business peoplo goes to show that it is not increasing to auy great extent. Tlio action of some peoplo in prosecuting tlioso whom they catch is considered to have had a salutary effect. In regard to tho thefts which take place inside shops tho delinquents seem generally to be women, while men appear more prone to make a casual selection from the wares displayed outside.
