HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) Tho Petone liorough Council has roceived definite proposals from tho syndicate which is seeking a concession, to lay down a tram service in tho town. Those will como before tho cotmei! to-night, and it is probable that a- definite decision will bo reached. Tho idea of handing such t concession to a syndicate appears to have met wish pretty general favour, for it /'.* realised that there, is not much chance of tin- council carrying out'the work, at least for some considerable time. Mr. W. C. Cuff, clerk to tho Hutt River Hoard, is in receipt of tho following nominations for tho vacant scat on tho board, caused through tho resignation of Mr. IT. Sladden:—Bowers, George, nominated by Messrs. G. Cudby and .T. Sullivan; Mabty, Job Charles, nominated by A. J, Lees nnd A. Evans; Gosse, P. H., nominated by R, Hazolwood and P. Casey. The election takes placo on Mny 7.
