THE CHANGE OF LOCATION. The report that St. Patrick's College Wellington, is to bo removed td Palnierston North is not a matter for surprise. Two or three years ago it was stated that tho college would benefit considerably it removed from a mid-city site, so encompassed and valuable as tho present one, to a place either in the suburbs or country. It was then suggested that tho present building and grounds were admirably adapted for the purposes of a Technical School, and (ho proposal to acquire the property for this purpose and sell tho prosont Technical School site and building in Mercer Street was mentioned in tho pressi At that time tho property was in the market, and a price vtfs quoted by the Church authorities, but nothing ever came of tho proposal, aa there was then not the slightest chanro. of tho Technical School Hoard being abla ,to raiso the money for the purchase of so valuable a block. Now tho situation i< changed. The college as an educational institution is to bo removed to Palmerston North, but it is not intended to dispose ot tho present property. Dean Ecgnault states that it is tho intention of the Church authorities to use tho collcgo building as a Collegiate High School for day scholars, and as a hostel for students from tho country who visit Wellington to tako a course of study at the Victoria College University. St. Patrick's College dates back to 18S1. On Sunday, March lfi, of that year tho foundation stone of tho building was laid by Archbishop (then Bishop) Redwood, in the presence ot a largo concourse of people, and tho building was formally opened by his Eminence the late Cardinal Moran. of Sydney. Tho building was erected by Messrs. Murdoch and Rose, from the'plans of Messrs. T. Turnbull and Son.
