RAILWAY SERVICES.
WELLINGTON.AND COUNTRY NEEDS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Palmerston North, April r ;9. Tho council of the Chamber of Commerce to-dav, in reply to overtures from tho Wellington Chamber to overcome tho. city's present isolation from tho country, decided to co-operate in endeavouring to improve tho train service between 'Wellington and Manawatu, particularly the morning and evening twins; and to support tho proposed deviation of the Manawatu lino through the Akatarawa Valley when such duplication is necessary. If duplication were oartied out between Palmerston and Waikanae, one lino could run through Akatarawa Valley to tho Tipper Hutt, and tho other, remain as at present. It was decided to support the Wellington Chamber in its endeavour to have a central station commenced, m the hope that Wellington .will Mipport the Palmerston demands for platform facilities and station buildings.
