MASTERTON NOTES.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) Masterton, April 25. At Knox Church this afternoon, in tho ■presence of a large gathering, the Bev. J. T. Young was inducted to tho charge of Lansdowne, a suburb of Masterton. The Moderator of tho Wairarapa. Presbytery (ltev. C. K. Stowell) presided, and conducted the ordination. The Eev. E. C. Tojmaut preached an appropriate sermon, and the Ifev. A. T. Thompson addressed tho minister and the people. ]n the evening a "social" was tendered (o Mr. and Mrs: Young in tho Lanedoime School. At the Methodist Church this afternoon Mr. George Curson was married to Mrs. A. P. Lee. The ceremony was performed by tho TCov. S. J., ?erpell. Tho Misses l!oid acted as bridesmaids, and Mr. T. Treen as best man. The newly-married couple left by the afternoon train, en route for Sydney. The annunl meeting of parishioners of St. Matthew's Church was held last evening, the Eev. H. Williams presiding. The annual report and balance-sheet were read. These showed the revenue for the vear, excluding the new church fund, to be .£1635 Is. lid., and tho expenditure ,£IBSB 3s. lid. Mr. J. VC. Blackman was re-elected parishioners' warden, and' Mr. K. N. Waddington, vicar's warden. Messrs. C. W. Terry and E. G. Eton were re-elected auditors. The vestrymen of last year were re-elected. Votes of thanks were passed to the hon. scerebirv (Mr. rtyer), Mr. .T. L. Murray, urn! (lie Wlies , Guild for the splendid work which they hart dono for the church during tho yea i , . The fortnightly sitting of Ilio Magistrate's Court was held this morning. Ik--fore Mr. Ij. C. lieid, S.M.,.when a ininil>cr of minor civil cases were disposed of. Sovcral interesting cases, including two charges of breaches of tho Gaming Act, will be heard at the criminal sittings tomorrow. Mr. G. B. Syke?, M.P., returned yesterday from a visit to the outlying portions of his electorate. He found the scttler3 in the baekblocks- in great heart, a pnlendid season liaving been experienced. The Kcv. Basil Ashcroft will ! duty next month as assistant curate of St." Mattheiv'3 parish. ' The Wairarapa Pre3bytory met in Knox ' Hall this afternoon.
