BAD WEATHER IN AUCKLAND.
ROWING SHED COLLAPSES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, April 23. The heavy rain squalls from the north* oast, which sot in shortly after 1 tun. to-day, interfered very considerably with shipping movements in port. The,mosquito lleet is held up awaiting a fair 'wind and cargo operations at the wharves havo been hampered. A timber boom, which was moored in Mechanics ■ Bay, broke loose early this morning, and tho drifting logs carried by a heavy swell scon began to play havoc amongst tho small craft anchored in tho bay. As a result a mini her of Yachts and fishing., smacks wero sunk. Tho piles supporting the Wflitemata Rowing Club's slied were carried away, causing tho structure to collapse. Tho shed contained fourteen boats, and six of these havo been. smashed to splinters, and somo others, it is feared, are damaged beyond nil hope of repair. 11l addition to tho loss of boats, practically tho whole stock o£ racing sculls has been lost, while tho contents of members' private lockers aro practically ruined. The loss (o the club is estimated nt about .£SOO, and private members will suffer considerably.
