OBITUARY.

MR. EDWIN HARLAND DEAN. Many in Wellington and elsewhere in New Zealand will regret to lcara that Mr. Edwin Ilarland Dean, of the legal firm of Brown and De;m, died at his residence, 2G 1 Grant Road, at 5 o'clock last evening. Mr. Dean had suffered froiu heart trouble for tho last six mouths, and lately pneumonia supervened. Under llieso ho gradually sank, passing away, peacefiilv last evening. Tho late Mr. Dean resided in Wellington for thirty-four years. He joined the legal firm of F. M. Ollivier in 1878, and after serving his nrtieles remained with tho firm until, after a number of changes, it became that of Brown, Skcrrett, and Dean. On Jlr. Skerrett's retirement, Messrs. Brown and Dean continued their partnership. Mr. Brown retired from tho firm last month, and Mr. T. Neave, Into of tho Crown Law Office, became Mr. Dean's partner. Jlr, Dean leaves a widow and one daughter (Mrs. H. S. King, of this citv), and two sons (Lieutenant Dean, of the Dorsetshire Regiment, now stationed at Poonnh, India, and Mr. Roy Dean, of AVellington). Mr. Denn, who came to Now Zealand in ISGS, from 'Newcastle, New South Wales, was in his fiftyfirst year at tho time of his death. His father was tho late Roy. W. J. Denn.
