INCREASE IN WAGES WANTED.
BRICKWORKS' EMPLOYEES,
(By Telegraph.-Press Association.) Dunedin, April 19. Trouble is threatened at Messrs. C. and W. Gore's brickworks at Wingatu over the question of wages. The men ceased work to-day, and demanded that the wages bo increased by Is. per day all round. At present boys receive 6s. to 7s. per day, and labourers Es. A deputation from the men waited on the employers, and laid their grievances before them, giving them till non to-morrow to consider the matter, the men resuming work in the meantime. The employers offered an advance of 6d. per day, but this was refused. It is understood that if the demand is not acceded to the men will cease work to-morrow. About 26 hands nr© involved. The employees were formerly working nnder an award, which expired, about eighteen months, ago, but the union has since been dissolved. ■ . :
